The next major region of Genshin Impact will be Snezhnaya. Players have been waiting for the addition of Snezhnaya for over a year due to delays by Nod-Krai. Fortunately, our wishes have finally been heard as Hoyoverse has confirmed the release date of Snezhnaya and provided specific information about the new region. Here’s everything you need to know about Genshin Impact Snezhnaya.

Genshin Impact Snezhnaya Release Date

Genshin Impact will add Snezhnaya on August 12, 2026. This date has been confirmed by Hoyoverse, and unless there is a significant change in the releases in between, we can expect the Cryo nation to arrive on the specified date. You can check our Genshin Impact posters guide to follow the character calendar for the upcoming days. The first Snezhnaya update will likely be called Genshin Impact 6.0, as Nod-Krai preferred to name the releases Luna.

As the game returns to the main storyline, Genshin Impact 6.0 should be the initial release and will introduce us to Snezhnaya.

The Place of Snezhnaya in Genshin Impact, Its Landscape, and Unique Powers

The new Snezhnaya developer stream organized by Hoyoverse revealed some details about the upcoming Cryo nation. Snezhnaya is the stronghold of the Cryo Nation and the Fatui. This place is also governed by Tsaritsa, the Cryo Archon. Since Snezhnaya is geographically right next to Nod-Krai, you won’t have to travel long distances to reach it.

Additionally, since it is a Cryo Nation, the geography of the Snezhnaya map is harsh with high mountains and snowy landscapes. We got a glimpse of it in the trailers, and it looks fantastic. The Fatui are also quite technologically advanced. Venti had mentioned that the Fatui are the strongest in terms of military power and technological advancement among the seven regions. After encountering the Fatui Harbingers multiple times, we have already seen their powers.

The developers also introduced trains that will connect different cities on the vast map. However, expect larger fortresses as cities instead of the normal comfortable places you can generally find in other regions.

New Combat, Mechanics, and NPC Behaviors in Snezhnaya

Like every new area in Genshin Impact, Snezhnaya will feature a distinct new combat mechanic. It is still unclear whether this will be something major like the introduction of Bloom and Lunar reactions or something smaller like the Arkhe system in Fontaine and the Phlogiston system in Natlan.

The developers also stated that there will be specific locations where players can affect and change the landscape. These changes will be shareable and seem to resemble the Arknights Endfield Blueprint system in some aspects.

For battles in Snezhnaya, we can expect players to use the Cryo element in new ways beyond just triggering elemental reactions. Cryo can destroy, break apart, and even reshape the battlefield terrain, affecting enemy movement paths.

NPCs and enemies will also behave a bit differently in Snezhnaya. Hoyoverse is working on a mechanic where you can unlock hidden quest lines by defeating certain enemies. Alternatively, some patrolling enemies may join the fight while engaged in a different battle. For the second scenario, I assume that patrolling guards could join in and help the traveler fight against monsters, as we can already attract multiple enemies to ourselves in the game.

The developers also mention that players will experience a completely new gameplay experience in a special area. They express that this will be something only the ‘Descender’ can do.

Genshin Impact Snezhnaya Characters

Genshin Impact Snezhnaya will introduce a completely new roster of characters, and you may have already seen some of them in the trailers. Here’s a list of possible Snezhnaya characters that may become playable in the upcoming new land:

  • Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya — Tsaritsa, Cryo Archon
  • Sandrone — 8th Fatui Harbinger
  • Pulcinella — 5th Fatui Harbinger
  • Alice — Founder of the Hexenzirkel Mages
  • Il Capitano — 1st Fatui Harbinger
  • Childe's new form — 11th Fatui Harbinger
  • Traveler Cryo Element

When it comes to character options, the possibility of the Cryo Archon and the Traveler unlocking Cryo powers comes to mind. These have been confirmed to happen, but Hoyoverse has not officially announced them.

Beyond that, there is a possibility of Sandrone becoming playable in Genshin Impact Snezhnaya. Yes, we know Sandrone's death in the Nod-krai story, but based on some clues left before and after the death scene, there is a possibility of resurrection. Since players already know her, she could guide us on the journey to Snezhnaya.

Next, Pulcinella, a Fatui Harbinger who remains in the shadows. Not much is known about him, and he doesn't look bad at first glance. This could mean he might be a playable character, but this is just our guess and we have no leaks to support it. On the other hand, Pantalone clearly looks like a bad character, so I don't consider him a potential playable character.

Now, Il Capitano merged with the Night Lord in the Natlan story, but he is a very good entity for a playable character. If Hoyoverse plans to capitalize on his popularity, Snezhnaya is the perfect place to resurrect him.

Finally, Childe is one of the most popular Fatui Harbingers, and we already have a playable version of him. However, with his potential and popularity, we might see a new playable form of Childe in the Cryo nation. Hoyoverse has done this before in other games, for example, Honkai Star Rail introduced a new form called Silver Wolf LV.999.

Aside from characters of Fatui origin, the first person that comes to mind is Alice. It has already been confirmed that she will not be playable in the upcoming Nod-Krai versions, so we might see her become playable in Snezhnaya.
