- Role: Duelist
- Difficulty: 4 stars
- Health: 275 HP
After her debut, Black Cat is now regarded as one of the top heroes in the Marvel Rivals hero ranking. An extremely agile duelist, Black Cat is filled with special abilities. Similar to the fearsome warrior Black Panther, Black Cat's basic attack (LMB) is a melee attack made with sharp claws.
The lucky thief also has three passive abilities that make her the evasive duelist in the game. The first passive, Stealthy Catwalk, allows Black Cat to climb walls, just like Spider-Man. Then, Malkin Misfortune, the craziest passive we've seen so far, allows Black Cat to apply Jinx to enemies she hits.
Those jinxed by Black Cat will struggle to harm her, as they will sometimes lose the chance to deal bonus damage with critical hits. Malkin Misfortune is not the only passive that activates during an attack; Sticky Paws works the same way. When Black Cat successfully attacks an enemy, she gains a certain amount of Fortune points.
These Fortune points are the key to unleashing her special abilities. Therefore, check out all of Black Cat's luck-themed kit, her ultimate ability, and teamwork in Marvel Rivals below:
| Ability Name | Ability Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Feline Fury | Left Click (Basic Attack) | Attacks forward with sharp claws. |
| Fortune’s Favor | Right Click | Releases Claw Whip or Phantom Pursuit by spending Fortune. |
| Claw Whip | Left Click (when Fortune’s Favor ability is used) | Launches a devastating swing forward with attached claws, dealing damage. |
| Phantom Pursuit | E (when Fortune’s Favor ability is used) | Dives quickly at an enemy, performs a rapid claw attack series, and returns to the starting position. During this move, Black Cat cannot be targeted. |
| Cat’s Cradle | L Shift | Leaps forward with claws extended, slicing through enemies in her path. |
| Turn Of Fortune | E | Throws a hook that steals Fortune by damaging the previous enemy. |
| Gilded Deal | F | Opens a dimensional tear through Randall Gate. Exchanges Fortune to acquire rare relics from the New York Thieves Guild Vault. |
| Fox Form Awakening | E | Transitions into an awakened state, turning Spirit Tails into physical tails. While active, continuously drains Spirit Tail energy and heals nearby allies. Attacking enemies provides additional area healing. |
| Thieving Grace | Space | Performs a double jump. |
| Calling Card | Q | Gives a Calling Card to all enemies, quickly diving at any enemy within sight and damaging them with her claws. |
| Stealthy Catwalk | Passive | Holds the Space key to climb vertical surfaces. |
| Malkin Misfortune | Passive | Applies Jinx to enemies on hit. Jinxed enemies have a chance to lose bonus damage when attacking Black Cat with critical hits. |
| Sticky Paws | Passive | Steals a certain amount of fortune every time she attacks an enemy. |
| Lucky Loan | Teamwork | Black Cat shares her luck with allies. The White Fox releases tracking Spirit Tails to provide healing and speed to allies with her newly gained luck, while dealing damage and slowing enemies. When Captain America experiences luck, the blocking radius of his shield expands, allowing him to redirect reflected bullets directly at targets. |

Now that you have learned about Black Cat's different move sets and abilities in Marvel Rivals Season 7.5, it's time to learn how to use those abilities in a match. As we mentioned earlier, Black Cat is a flanking duelist like Black Panther and Psylocke in Marvel Rivals. Therefore, your ideal targets should always be Strategists and Duelists, then you can move on to Vanguards.
Since Black Cat's special abilities require a fortune cost, you need to earn enough fortune by attacking enemies in sight. You can either hit them with the default melee attack, use the hook attack ability, or dive at your enemy to steal fortune. So far, we have observed that melee attacks yield +50 fortune, hook attacks yield +250/300 fortune, and dive attacks yield +150 fortune per hit.
Once you have secured enough fortune, the real game for Black Cat begins here. With your fortune points, the reliable and aggressive attack is the Fortune’s Favor ability. Just hold your RMB, and you will see either Claw Whip or Phantom Pursuit attack option.
Both attacks deal heavy damage and should be used according to the situation. For example, if an enemy, say White Fox, is trying to escape with low health, you can chase them down and finish them off with the Phantom Pursuit attack. If you land a successful hit, these attacks also return some fortune points.
The next Gilded Deal ability opens up new scenarios where Black Cat now has more special power with relics. The key to surviving as Black Cat and winning fights depends on how well you can combine these abilities in succession.
For example, you can risk your luck by using the Tablet of Destinies relic and try to gain extra fortune. Then, you can place the Faltine Flame Orb to reveal enemy locations. Following that, you can approach them (without getting caught), use the Helm of Hades to become invisible, and begin diving into the backlines.
This is just one of the many ways to combine Black Cat's abilities, and now you can understand why the skill ceiling for our new duelist hero is so high. You can rely on Black Cat's double jump, dive, invisibility, or Doctor Strange-style portal abilities to escape a battlefield quickly.
Finally, Black Cat's ultimate ability will be called one of the best ultimates in Marvel Rivals (we're sure of it!), it's the icing on the cake. When you release your Calling Cards, all nearby enemies will be marked, and you will have unlocked Wall Hacks. Now Black Cat is free to jump at the enemy (can dive up to 60 meters) and can follow up with a powerful cutting move that can easily eliminate squishy heroes.
Okay, now you are familiar with both Black Cat's abilities and how to use them wisely. Next, here are some of the best tips to masterfully play the slippery thief Black Cat in Marvel Rivals:
- Start Earning Fortune: Since all of Black Cat's equipment revolves around fortune, you need to develop a strategy to earn enough fortune early in the game. You can either gather fortune by attacking stealthily, use the hook attack, or risk your luck.
- Evade When Necessary: You are an agile but glass-cannon duelist in the game; you must be aware of your HP. When caught by multiple enemies, it is important to escape with Black Cat's movement-focused abilities. Otherwise, you will continuously die while trying to attack.
- Think Ahead to Save Yourself: Be good at predicting how the game will unfold. Because by using Chernobog’s Crystal in advance, you can escape from the worst CCs like Mantis's sleep effect or Doctor Strange's ultimate.
- Learn the Best Combos: You will struggle if you are not ready to combine her abilities while playing Black Cat. As a starting point, you can use this combo: Mento Fish > Grappling Hook > Dash > Claw Whip > Phantom Pursuit > Claw Whip to eliminate squishy heroes.
